>>14122680It's honestly kind of terrifying to see your body become increasingly more fragile, less resilient, and slow to recover. A few weeks ago at work I tripped over a cat. Tried to avoid stepping on it and ended up falling pretty hard, bashing the side of my knee onto concrete. I had to sit down for a minute for the serious pain to go away and to check that it was just a bump and not a torn ligament, and then had some minor pain for several hours when walking on it. But I was able to keep going with discomfort and was fine a day later.
But I know that if this same fall had happened when I was 15, I would barely have been bothered. If it had happened when I was 25, I would have dusted myself off and gone back to work in a moment.
Even worse, though, is knowing that this same fall when I'm 45 or 55 will make me incapable of work for several days. If it happens at 65 I may need medical attention and will be incapable or walking for weeks. If it happens at 75 I will break a fucking hip and need surgical reconstruction.
