1. Infrastructure wasn't actually that extensive in places like West Africa. It was mostly meant for housing and serving colonists and their allies and extracting resources. Most of the infrastructure in Africa was built more recently with loans and contractors from Asia.

It's a huge problem for certain species in certain places.

Not OP, but I think it's pretty obvious cats do what they do partly out of pure instinct, and partly out of curiosity. I'm not convinced they realize they are inflicting torture. The more "advanced" a creature is, the more likely it is to show some fascination with the reactions of other living things, and what better way to get another living thing to react than to hurt it?

Maybe that's what OP was asking about in the first place, but to me it sounds more like he's asking if nature has its Ted Bundies. I think sadistic psychopathy is uniquely human: it seems to be driven by the same basic motives as the behavior of the cat torturing a bird, but with some additional layer of satisfaction gained specifically from conscious reflection on the nature of the unprovoked act.

it's possible. you may not be able to break into a front office strat job. but risk management divisions are always looking for quantitative PhDs, regardless of field. lots of physics, engineering, and math PhDs work in my division and didn't have any prior finance experience

no but it was increasing the lift coeffecient over 4. I remember several wings profiles slightly angled and reducing in size after each other. It's just that it's supposed to be an optimum if I recall correctly and I don't remember the physicist who made the model
