This is the best field to be in.
Just got my engineering PhD, focusing on picrel, and my job opportunities are amazing.
>software engineering offers due to my awesome programming experience.
>Biotech scientist offers because they use this to design drug molecules.
>National lab scientist offers because they use this to design/understand materials.
If you become an expert in this field then you're a true polymath; you'll become adept at computer science, math, physics, chemistry, and biology. Your strong point however will be software, math, and physics. Plus it's incredibly interesting knowing how atoms and molecules move, and how these processes dictate literally everything around us.
This is an amazing field and I encourage anyone interested to pursue it.
