VITAMINS

No.13499333 ViewReplyOriginalReport
What does /sci/ think about adding vitamins to a regular diet? Is there any conclusive evidence that over the counter supplements have any substantial value?

In pharmacy school there wasn't much to be said about vitamins-- the general consensus seemed to be that they are really only useful for extremely specific cases, and even then the odds of a clinically significant change happening by taking them routinely is slim at best.

What should I do to make sure I stay healthy after my vax? I’ve been completely anti-vax for COVID this whole time and think it needlessly adds health risks to young people like me who aren’t in danger of COVID. However I’ve been a neet for a year out of college now, but I just got a job offer with a decent salary but one of its requirements is I gotta get the vax in order to come in. You can see the pickle I’m in. Anyway my vax is scheduled for today so what should I do afterwards to recover from it?

I am a biochemistry major entering my freshman year, and I have no idea how DNA works, and I'm convinced most people, if not everyone, has no idea how DNA works.

Yeah sure I get translation, transcription, sugar phosphate, purines and pyrimidine, but heres some facts:
3.2 billion base pairs in the human genome
~25000 genes
60% of human DNA is the same as a banana
98.8% of human DNA is the same as a chimp
We know that traits like intelligence are somewhat genetic
How the fuck does a protein influence that? What the fuck is going on? HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN I DONT FUCKING UNDERSTAND ITT
AND ITS 3.3 GB !? the entire human genome is 3.3 gig, how? JElly fish genome size is 0.3gb

And then they say OH OK cells differentiate because they can turn on and off gene expression. Ok so a protein must have to do that ? i just -
this shit is fucking insane and I feel like everyone is just pretending to know what theyre talking about.

Please help me understand DNA and genetics... This shit drives me nuts.

I'd like to study Physics someday but I absolutely suck at maths. How do I become good enough so I can major in Physics in the future? I'm already at college studying something not math related.
