To answer more seriously, it's a different era. Current generations haven't had to deal with the reality of war very much. Global culture is moving past the traumas of WW2.
Which is arguably a good thing, of course, but the psychological pressures of that kind of conflict do get channeled into art.
Everything is a bit lower energy these days, which is fine, when you consider it from another angle.
Maybe there's less demand for hot blooded mecha war action, but maybe that's because it's less necessary for the current psyche.
