Well, I watched the original show on my own a few months before the new one aired, simply because I was checking out old cartoons - also watched the original he-man, its 2000s reboot, G1 transformers, GI Joe, etc.
She-ra was not exceptionally worse than the others, but I would probably list it at the bottom of my list as far as quality is concerned.
Out of all of those, I think she-ra stood out the most to me in terms of badly re-used generic animation, but I'm pretty sure they were all guilty of it to some degree. I can't say I liked any characters outside of Madame Razz, who was a cute granny/auntie, maybe mantenna, who was just fucking weird. Others were either annoying (Catra), forgettable, or virtually indistinguishable. The only fun scenes were of hordak bullying mantenna.
I honestly think the new series is much better, if only because I can tell you at least one personality trait for most of the characters (exceptions being netossa and spinarella, of course, before people bring them up to masterfully destroy my argument)
Also, talk about "muh fat glimmer" as much as you like, all the characters are also unique and have distinguishable silhouettes. All characters from the old show were literally the same toy mold.
