>>99818282The book does a little bit of fairy-tale parody, a small amount of which survives in the movie ("Have a taco."), including some decent dark humor in a town nearby Hagard's castle, although nothing that happens there really matters much.
When Prince Liir is introduced he's a chubby dullard and becomes heroic for the sake of the unicorn-as-woman.
The unicorn's mental transformation into a human woman after her bodily transformation is developed a little bit more, which I imagine was cut for time/pacing in the film.
Schmendrick turns out to
have been cursed by his master with immortality until he becomes a real magician, meaning he really was an extraordinary figure all along ("older than I look").Honestly it's not a whole lot. The movie is a very good adaptation.
