On a serious note I suspect its just a lifestyle thing. The ones getting the fur suits made and commissioning EVERYTHING seem to be white, upper to middle middle class, with no children. From what I've observed, a lot of them live in rental units (houses or apartments, you can usually tell from the colors of the walls or the carpet, or the cheap hanging blinds) or with their parents. They don't have children, or high end possessions outside what appeals to the fandom.
There is also a tendency for them to have technology jobs that pay fairly well. Without a family to support, or without a different, money sucking hobby, they have incredible amounts of disposable income.
They do also tend to be youngish, and sometimes people in their 20s are really foolish with money.
tl, dr; they ain't spending their income on very much otherwise.
