Really the most appalling thing about this is that those characters really don't serve a purpose in the main universe in any way.

Like, seriously, they only work as the characters they are because they're in their own universe with it's own history. They may as well incorporate Camelot 3000 or Fables into DC Mainline continuity.

How's that working for the Wildstorm characters since the reboot? Or the Milestone ones? The merging doesn't work. Cross-overs are fine, but full merge are awful because the editors and writers will always pay more attention to the DC proper characters. People keep acting like because they could theoretically crossover watchmen into the main dcu it's okay. Watchmen was a standalone piece of literature designed to tell a story beginning to end with a purpose. And then just BE that story. Like, sure Lucifer takes place in the DCU, but since he's being handled by the Vertigo line of books, with Vertigo editors and Vertigo writers and artists, we will try to keep the DC heroes references to a minimal. That was it.

But then in 2011 the Vertigo line was selling like shit and Didio decided to start to use the DCU side of the Vertigo by the DC editors, writers and artists, but the continuity was still one and the same. Then the reboot happened and they tried to change things a bit.

I'm only saying that before the Flashpoint reboot that the DC and the Vertigo/DC comics took place in the same universe, with limited refences to one another here and there.

Then the Flashpoint rebooted happened and for the first year or so the books that were pitched before the reboot was actually a thing kept a bit of the previous continuity, like Swamp Thing, Animal Man and Batwoman, until the editors and writers decided that keeping the old canon was stupid and slowly started to change things. For example there's no Tefe.
