>>121862762Racking my brain, I don't think it's Raya being an Avatar rip off that they have a problem with. (and honestly it really is a rip-off. Five distinct cultures with someone from each and an antagonist that was driven by their parent to be evil ends up becoming good. Etc.)
I think they're pissed off since Raya was written by Asian Americans, and avatar by two FUCKING WHITE MEN. And to their realities, it's like saying oh well these Asian women ripped off these white men in portraying asian culture.
Which 1. Anyone can portray any race/culture/every noun in the book.
And 2. It's not the fucking asian culture thing they ripped off. You cant rip that off because it's coming from real life. If I write a story that has the characters going to Egypt, it's not ripping off JoJo.
No, people call Raya a rip-off because it steals many story beats and style from Avatar. It isn't just "a youth adventure in an Asian style fantasy world." There's way more to it than that, to the point where there's tons of videos and essays going over it.
But I guess between the Atlanta shooting, usual twitter bs, and some dumb ass author who wanted to shill her self-published book, the tweet was perfect for a hostile mobbing.
