If you had to squeeze an answer out of me, i'd say that it's probably possible there's some catholic distortion going on with some elements of the concepts, especially the communion parallels with cannibalism, but the idea of ixiptla itself, to me at least, seems like something that was probably a truly prehispanic concept.... again, though, this is really getting deep into both research and debates over colional sources, as well as debates and interpretations ofr Aztec philosophy, cosmology, etc (if you check the pastebin below, you can see some stuff from me talking about potential issues and debates over Leon-Portilla and Maffie's reconstructions of Aztec philosophy and metaphysics, for example)
>>120583971you just want me to post pic related don't you
>>120582774If you're interested, my main resource directory is here:
pastebin.com/p42q14Ffwhich includes prior dumps I;'ve done on Mesoamerican history here on 4chan(though they tend to be Aztec-centric), and towards the bottom of it, I link to an art drive, a mega book drive, and a link to a reddit post by somebody I collab with which has it's own set of resources, notably an Askhistorians post directory (IMO binging that list of askhistorians posts is the best starting place on Mreso history, if you read all of those you'll have a solid starting foundation)
A lot of this stuff needs to be updated, though: The pastebin itself hasn't in a while, so it's missing a dump I did on Mesoamerican polearms, a conquest related one, and my Mesoamerican media reccomendations. The art and book drive itself also haven't been in a while, same for the reddit post. The art drive in particular represents a really small slice of everything I have, there's a lot I need to sort through to add and I'm undecided if photos, site maps, or content from artists who already post their content online (it's mostly older aritst's stuff from out of print books and such) etc will ever get added to it.
