Oh right, that's pretty key. Gerrymandering isn't so obvious. Suppression of opinions one doesn't like is going to make its rounds almost instantly.
Here's my theory: most of the left-wing idiots are either celebrities who should know better about PR, or control-freak mods who have significant power as far as opinion narrative. Right wing morons usually are either small fry or have some sort of personality. Left wing morons also tend to be young know-nothing-know-it-alls with a superiority complex.

They appeal to the skub issues, and then do shit behind their voters' backs, but the voters don't care because gays/abortion/guns. Tons of conservatives get btfo all the time, but unlike many liberals they are actually likable and know how to capture their voters' hearts.
Democrats cast too wide, and they have to be much more careful. Double standards also apply. Fox News has been known for shoddy journalistic ethics, but their viewers, 70 on average, don't care, whereas the "liberal" media will suffer if they ever accidentally publish fake news.
