I didn't notice this general was up, I should check the catalog more often. Anyway, I'm copypasting my thread.
I'm sure that someone talked about this before here in /vldg/, but I recently finished Season 2 and I feel like I need to understand this better.
I'll admit that Shiro is my favorite character in the new Voltron, but how do I put this... I just don't want to see him die, okay? He's too good of a character to be killed off, especially considering how much effort he put into breaking Zarkon's bond with the Black Lion and truly gained its trust and led Voltron to annihilating Zarkon's weapon in the 2nd season finale.
So far, Shiro told Keith twice about giving the responsibility of the Black Lion to Keith if anything happens to him, even though Keith himself already has a strong bond with the red lion. This is like beginner-level foreshadowing, it's so obvious and way too on the nose that Shiro will meet his demise or get lost again, and suddenly he is lost in God knows where at the conclusion of Season 2 because the writers refuse to give this beautiful man a break. Hell, Keith is literally Shiro's right-hand man, it's not that subtle about it.
I don't know why and I don't dislike Keith at all, but I really can't stand the idea of him being the leader of Voltron, he's too prideful and too much of a stubborn hothead to think anything through like Shiro. Yes, I know, he used to be the leader in previous iterations of Voltron and Shiro used to be called Sven or whatever, but he's the Red Paladin in this iteration and not the Black Paladin, so he can't control two lions.
I just want to see Shiro continue smiling and still be Voltron's amazing leader, he's suffered too much...
