>>90652581I think part of the confusion comes from the fact we don't know how Aku really operates.
We know he has armies, we know he randomly enslaves people to build monuments to him or gather resources, we know he has many many assassins and agents everywhere.
But does he collect tribute/taxes from people?
Does he station agents or overseers in cities and areas he controls?
Does he basically let the people govern themselves?
He doesn't seem to fight against technological progress or dis-allow science.
Aku seems mostly like an aloof lazy figure who just wants people to acknowledge how great he is, then leaves them alone, coming and going as he pleases, taking whatever he wants and leaving once he's gotten it.
It's shown in the series that he's branching out to other worlds and trying to gather or maintain control over other planets. He seems to basically conquer areas, defeat militaries and defenses, again taking what he wants... then leaving. Similar to a bandit or pillager.
Afterwards, other bandits, despots, space thugs, mob bosses, whatever probably sweep in and take control of whatever area or planet he's devastated.
Kind of have to assume earth is like this as well.
Technological disparity isn't that odd though. It's the same situation as in real life. If you go to parts of Africa or Asia, you wouldn't see any cars, smart phones, computers, or modern technology and you would have to assume those things don't exist on Earth. It's the same in Jack's world and probably worse. One town in the middle of the mountains could be medieval level society, while just a few hundred miles away there is a Mega-city with Sci-fi tech.
So many socities of Jack's world have probably been destroyed by Aku or other forces, then slowy tried to rebuild, too afraid to venture to other areas to see if they could get help. So they isolate and try to progress their own societies.
Mainly, the SJ world is just a setting for cool adventures.
