>>89700427From my understanding of the memetic etymology of it, there is a rapper named Lil' B the Based God and he was able to release an absurd amount of music independently. His incredible quantity gained him notoriety and popularity, and, believe it or not, made him a more talented rapper. It's kind of how the Beatles had to play like 250 shows a year for two years before they could start coming into their own as songwriters.
So this man becomes a meme. He straddles this line between "so bad it's good" and just regular, uh, "good."
And it's sort of brought to a mainstream audience's attention that "Based" can be slang for "good" in whatever community started it. Same way people started using contemporary examples like "lit." Or even more retro examples, like "diesel."
I dunno, language is cool. If you really pushed for something in your vernacular, eventually it would catch on. I've gotten people I know to start saying things based on me just forcing the meme.
