>>89126891Okay, you want me to criticize Marvel too? I was going to but I didn't want to make more than one post, but why the fuck not?
I'll rip Marvel a new one because here's the truth: Marvel has killed cinema.
At first what they were aspiring to do was admirable; the idea of a shared Universe with such a hefty source material whilst still retaining it's integrity and form as great stories is great. They had an incredibly solid beginning with Iron Man, a film that should've been awful--but wasn't. Instead, it was strange, fun, and surprisingly intelligent despite being about a character that literally no one in the mainstream cares about. Most kids probably thought nothing of it.
Then the movie came out, and it was cool. It had style, it was chic, and in terms of super-hero movies, it truly stood alone.
Then the Hulk came out, it sucked, and the most memorable thing about it was that Iron Man was in it, talking about a team. Then Iron Man 2 came out and it sucked, Thor came out and it kind of sucked, and then Captain America came out, and it also didn't set the world on fire, yet was generally accepted.
So here's the thing: only Iron Man was the truly "great" film of phase one. No one gave two shits about the others. No, not until The Avengers.
Joss Whedon knew how to do it--how to appeal to the masses, and when it came out, everyone loved it despite the film itself being more or less mediocre and awkwardly written.
Another thing that took me by surprise was how small the film felt. Sure, it had all these heroes together at last, but where each film that was a stand-alone should've felt grand and large (and they didn't), the Avengers did so as well!
Even since then, we've just been fed the same shit but with less quality. And the result? Every studio gives up on originality so they too can make a quick buck with a shit product.
Now it's all reboots and sequels so a studio can make a new universe, and everybody at Hollywood has fallen for it.
