I've seen stories where mothers learn that if they have a child, they will die, but the child will survive, or they can kill the child and survive themselves and the mother will choose to die to give their child a shot at life. I mean it's an abstract though that I think is more human than alien, I don't know if rose could comprehend these feelings because it certainly seemed like most gems they are emotionally fucking retarded and have the emotional awareness of a brick. Maybe she learned? Maybe she didn't. No one knows, it seems like she was on that path while discovering love with greg, maybe gems are capable of that as well. I'd assume it would be like permanently fused, you lose yourself, but create a greater sum of both of you into one living being that you can live though. Though in a human sense, you will never be aware of what your sum will do, in a gem sense you can.
Personally I think greg having a kid was good for him anyways, and I have a very good feeling that rose explained to him that if they have a kid she will go away for good and he was fine with that because she wanted it too.
