Well, /co/, since Fox's X-Men Apocalyse is being panned worse than X-Men The Last Stand, Man of Steel, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, what will Fox do now that their movie is bombing???

Will they focus on Deadpool an have him lead the X-Men?

Will they fire Singer an get fresh blood (like that Deadpool director?)???

Will they reboot the X-Men?

Will they make a deal with Marvel Studios and have Wolverine appear in a movie and pay Marvel Studios to make X-Men movies for them?

The x-man cinematic universe is already so convoluted, if that were to happen the only way to make sense of it is to just view the entire series as a story about Wolverine being drug around various alternate realities and timelines as he is the only constant throughout the films. In fact that's basically already the state they are in

Making DoFP be a reset button wasn't a bad idea, but they didn't really do a good job of clearing the slate properly while building up something substantial in it's place. They still had to fall back on Magneto and his revolving door villainy for instance, and they completely ignored the implication the Mystique intercepted Wolverine.

No, I honestly think it's a pretty good way to go about it.

They could put all the classic stuff with Magneto's terrorism and similar old stories in the past, like Pym's Ant-Man days, focus on younger mutants and use the classic X-Men as teachers, and even explore the idea of superheroes quietly operating before Tony and Bruce's respective joyrides.

I'd even bet they'll explore that idea with Doc Strange, having part of the movie happening in the past.

Anyway, it'd work, and you know it.

There is no way Xavier could keep the existence of mutants secret, there's just too many mutants and he can't brainwash everyone. Not to mention that it's extremely unethical and goes against Xavier's whole character.

I agree, Magneto's plotline was the same recycled one he's had in every movie so far, and Apocalypse had a few good moments, but didn't feel developed enough to be an interesting villain. Plus his fight scenes where pretty lame, either consistently of instant wins in his favor or waiting around for Jean to pop his bubble shield.

Just saw it, the movie wasn't that bad. I'd say it was like a 60%. Not great,but sure as hell not the worst X movie. Wolverine Origins still has that honor. And Last Stand was much worst as well.

Let me start this off by saying Bryan Singer is a hack.

Wolverine, Magneto, Xavier - these are the only X-Men characters Bryan Singer 'understands', and even then it is fairly surface level.

When the new trailer for this Apocalypse FLICK showed repeat of the "Great swell of pity.." line that should have been the warning sign. That was not some epic callback, it was Singer and Kinberg reusing that dialogue because they legitimately could not think of another facet of that relationship.

Xavier has always been the emotional core of this series, Magneto the dramatic core, and Wolverine the protagonist. First Class had the new blood and fresh eyes to change things up (which lead to the improved importance of Mystique - face it people - Singer is HORRIBLE with female characters for perhaps obvious reasons). Watch X-Men Apocalypse and see Xavier with moist crying eyes in every scene, Magneto going through his villain "'''"""arc"""""" once again (bafflingly, instead of giving Apocalyse or the Horsemen any sort of development), and the movie wandering around aimlessly without Wolverine to tell Singer what to do.

It already made 115 mil overseas and is aiming at 90 mil opening weekend, by end of the holiday, plus whatever it makes this weekend overseas, it will have made its budget back bud. They're never getting the rights back, not with Deadpool existing.

The ROI of Deadpool was such that they could write down this movie, new F4 movie and at least one more or two more mid size movie bombs and still come out even, that is how much profit Deadpool has made.

They sold 1 million copies in 4 days from just digital after it was heavily pirated. Once they release the new monthly figures, deadpool is still doing great numbers in bluray/dvd/digital.

Yeah, the whole thing with the X gene came later. Originally there wasn't a central cause for superpowered mutants, and mutations were caused by the same things that caused normal mutations- exposure to radiation, random fluke of nature, etc. The only clear thing that made them mutants was that they had to be born mutants, so anyone who was born normal but later had a lab accident wouldn't qualify.

I know both Professor X and Beast had originally had "parents worked in nuclear stuff" as the explanation for their mutation.

The dumbest thing about AoA is that we already saw at the end of DoFP that everything was hunky-dory in the future.

We already know that the characters we cared about live on and everything is at peace.

AoA is purely for gratuitous action and seeing cool shit being done by people with awesome fucking powers.

To be fair, this is par for the course with the series. The only movie that did a reasonable job of balancing its cast was the very first one, and that's largely because it had a much smaller cast. From X2 onward, it's been about shoving as many characters into the movie as they can, with several of them getting shafted because there isn't enough time to give them all a spotlight.

Actually, I guess you could say The Wolverine mostly avoided this too.

I agree, though I think the series does need a reboot. Not necessarily an MCU reboot, it can stay at Fox, but it's become too bloated. They need to let it cool down for a few years and start fresh.

It's reviewing badly, but is guaranteed to be a financial success. Fox already got Wolverine 3 and the X-Men spinoffs in the works, so no, they won't hand over the rights to Marvel.

Unlike WB, Fox has a good batting average when it comes to comic book adaptations, such as Deadpool, the previous X-Men films, and Kingsman.

I can see the next X-Men film getting a new director (maybe Matthew Vaughn will return), but we're getting another installment regardless.

Its a 5 minutes cameo in a 2 hours and a half movie which wasnt really relevant to the plot of the movie. He probably appears less than 1 minute on screen and considering its his last X-men team movie, just let him have it. Its not like Apocalypse was about him or anyone was fucked over his cameo.

Anyone saying the movies focus too much on Wolverine is 10 years outdated.

Hell, even the people that say Mystique is the focus are also wrong since she barely appears in Apocalypse and does nothing of relevance other than saving nightcrawler at the beginning.

Its just MCU drones complaining about stuff that stopped being an issue a trillion years ago. If anything Magneto gets too much focus and they should drop him a bit. Even if he was the best part of the movie.

I fucking hate the X-Men timing. Not because Deadpool can't join the X-Men (which he shouldn't), but because they refuse to do a reboot. And they continue to move up 10 years every movie, but really it's bullshit. Stick to one time period instead of jumping ahead a decade without aging the characters.

It's been both. It's a general metaphor for "otherness" and being an outcast, so different writers have written it as being analogous to race and homosexuality.

Within the context of the movies it's definitely homosexuality, especially in the movies where Singer is involved- he's been upfront from the very first movie that he identified with mutants because of his own homosexuality and how he had been treated growing up. Hell, he wasn't even a fan of X-Men until he was approached to direct the first movie, and it was that metaphor that attracted him to the project to begin with.
