>>125860631Rick and Morty is just such a fucking disappointment, man. I liked it at first specifically because it was just stupid comedy, playing creative sci-fi with no real hard rules, then it got taken over by retards who think people liked Rick and Morty because nihilism.
They've just been trying to make themselves dark Futurama, but it doesn't really work because basically everything in the show feels meanspirited. They keep driving it into a super serious direction without realizing that the most interesting part of R&M in that aspect is completely ignoring Rick and Morty as the fucked up people they are.
Rick and Morty as characters were funny when they weren't taken seriously. "Smartest man in the universe, but he's a drunk asshole, and also kinda dumb, but his plans always work because everyone around him is dumber, and he has infinite sci-fi bullshit." "14 year old boy, pathetic social retard underdog being dragged along by his grandpa and trying to get laid." "The two engage in funny shenanigans resulting from different sci-fi concepts and wacky scenarios they end up in."
I also feel like they just fucking hated the part of the fanbase that liked Rick, which is completely fair, but also not a reason to just completely shit on his character in the most petty and demoralizing of ways.
Rick Potion #9 is really the only emotional beat that ever hit for me, and it should've honestly stopped there, because pondering just a little bit on that nihilistic outlook of multidimensional travel was the only thing that really worked even on paper.
Rick and Morty has just been a mixed bag of fuck-ups and somewhat okay episodes for fartsniffers to overanalyze and try to derive some greater meaning from, when it should've been a goofy sci-fi comedy. The writers think they're smart, but they're not, and it's been incredibly painful to watch.
