Keeping everything prior to this chapter.
-Mike being depressed in school is fine, having him mull over needing Sandy
-Have him get obessive as he sees his friends around him happy and his angst with Lucy intensifies.
-Mike snoops around Sandy's social media looking for clues but gives up feeling "creepy", tries to reason it away
-Mike gets a suspicious voice-mail and/or text that seems like Sandy is talking to someone else (Or fuck, made it some sexting/nude selfie)
-Calls her and confronts her - she is in the middle of things with Francis
-She is trying to avoid things and unsure, Mike gets increasingly frantic
-Francis takes over the phone and tells him off
-Mike is left devestated
-Runs to the tree, seeing noone there - breaks down sobbing
-Flashback to times with Sandy (possibly fading into memories of Lucy)
We can go two routes here
Mike openly expressing his stupidity to a hidden Lucy and/or Mike attempts suicide.
Mike openly expressing feelings leads to a subtler buildup - but Mike attempting suicide with Lucy saving him is more dramatic and in line with BCB - this could give them a reason to bond.
Mike is in critical condition but slowly getting better for suicide route. Lucy visits him and the two (with no choice) slowly start to talk day by day, realizing the errors of their ways.
Non-Suicide route, Mike is watched by Lucy - days later they meet at the tree again and she confesses she heard everything- the two talk about their past to leave the door open for future chapters.
But the story needs a good payoff, so something dangerous to bond the two together again would work if they are wanting to get them together asap. Both need to admit their wrong-doings but this is just hamfisted and heavy-handed with narrative whiplash like crazy.
