When did Marvel Comics seem to start consistently sucking in general?
They seemed to be consistently well-written during the Silver Age, especially compared to DC.

The 90's come to mind but that may be my nostalgia speaking - at some point I noticed it got out of hand. Hulk with guns, Johnny Storm with guns, women drawn from porn actresses, what a great time it was to be alive. It's possible than before that I was just too young to notice the flaws in my good ol'x-men.

By 1994 things were clearly heading south. By 1995 there was almost nothing left worth reading from the company. This tread wouldn't be reversed for years. Once things got better it took until "Marvel NOW" (as: >>122331884 points out) before they began to be shit across the board. Things have only gotten worse since then.

Yeah ive been digging into some comic industry lore recently and that definitely was when marvel went all in on the whole "we need spiderman to stay young so he can appeal to new readers" after that continuity got really muddled and convoluted

I'd say the 90s, even though there's a lot I liked from it. If you compare the 90s against 60s/70s/80s you could see a vast decline as Marvel overdid gimmicks and lost consistency.

People will argue that the 2000s were vastly better than the 90s, and I can see why, but the craft is superficially improved at the expense of characterization and story consistency.

While the 2010s wasn't 100% bad, the worst of the 2010s comes off way more hollow than the 90s and the 00s. 2016-2017 was probably the absolute lowpoint of that decade for Marvel.

Literally after the mid 1990s, im a 25 year old guy who got into comics about 3 years ago. Went back read the staple heroes and while their stuff was dated in the beginning they were enjoyable, things only got better and better from the 60s era and for many of the series i read they peaked around 80s. Then a trend i noticed is that once these series got into the 1990s i couldn't bothered to read them. One example is ASM's retarded clone saga shit where i had to constantly jump back and forth between runs to figure a plot that wasn't even good to begin with
