>>120601079My 6 and 8 year old only stream and we cut cable a while ago since no one used it. I’ve noticed that as the kids get older they find what they like. I told my son Hasbro was streaming GI Joe and he got hooked. My daughter loves these families that do games or skits and playmotion doll videos on YouTube. One neighbor kid is way into back to the future.
As a parent I’ve seen pushing merch to 4-6 year olds is real easy. Parents are all putting on the same thing for the kids. Somewhere around 7-8 the monolith breaks up and it becomes more of a gamble to push merch to a fragmented audience. It also doesn’t help modern cartoons are not as easily merchandised as the stuff from the 80’s and 90’s. The 80’s in particular had a magic synergy between the merch and the toons. You won’t see that again.
I think most kids still like toys. I’ve noticed many parents don’t want to “waste the money” as I’ve heard. These selfish fucks all grew up in the 80’s and 90’s and most likely had tons of stuff. You can’t underestimate how selfish the modern parent has become. Lego has also gotten too big. Some of my sons friends only do lego, like they’re too good for toys.
