Lack of original talent. Alan Moore is the greatest thing to happen to the comic industry, I don’t care what the /co/ntrarians have to say. Moore took things in directions not seen before and it worked. The current climate of comics is regurgitating the same ideas with minor changes. Just look at Future State. Marketed as something new but in fact it’s just the same character types, just different people in the role. People have lost the souls of the superhero and it sucks.

Like the plot or characters, or how the character were made of a comic? Look up the author/writer/designer and buy more stuff done by them.

People that started in the 80s: Moore, Miller, Mazzucchelli, the Hernandez Bros, Eddie Campbell, all the people that contributed to Raw magazine including Chris Ware and Richard McGuire. Sure, they went on to make great works in the 90s and after, but how many big-time creators come from the 90s? 2000s?

I liked Planetary, but everything else I've read of his, from Trasmet to Authority to Nextwave, I didn't care for.
As for Mike Carey, I haven't read Lucifer, so I shouldn't really be saying anything against him, but I read some of his Hellblazer and didn't like it.
The Azzarello comics I've read were mediocre, and I only know Colleen Doran as an artist. Also, Doran started comics in the 80s.
