Dan doesn’t have bad intentions, but god it irked me how he kind of saw being a hero as a fantasy. I also don’t really like that they gave him an abusive dad in Before Watchmen, as it kind of feels contradictory to him being an oblivious rich kid. Still, the other heroes are different in that at the end of the night, they can walk away from the crime infested city Walter’s never able to leave. Veidt hitting Rorschach’s neighborhood specifically was such a good writing decision, especially after we got to know the people who hung around the news stand.
Walter cares so much, dude. He’s the only one who does all this shit because he specifically cares about these vulnerable people. It hits even harder because of how shitty his job is. The guy is probably exhausted from his shitty slavewage job, but he still feels responsible to protect others.
Also wow I forgot about the newspaper, and I agree with you. I don’t think he actually has bad intentions towards minorities or women.
Walter’s issues around women and sex are so deeply rooted, man. His mom not only failed to protect him from her lifestyle, but also inflicted abuse on him, even when he was trying to protect her. Also, of course he thinks sex is bad when his first exposure to it is his mom being hurt by a John. I never considered that he might’ve been raped, but if so, that makes his trauma even worse.
I noticed that too! For all his misogyny, he is always extremely willing to protect women, and doesn’t get prostitutes arrested. In Before Watchmen, he beats the shit out of a pimp, but ignores the prostitute he was with.
Also, agreed! Actions speak louder than words and he obviously thinks women are worth protecting.
Also, thanks for sperging with me about Rorschach lol
