I've had an idea for a while, but I was conflicted between choosing the character/IP, because some bits fit one more, and others fit another. Basically, it's the story of a power hungry guy, in the modern world, climbing the ladder and what comes next. Since it's set in the "now", the plan was to have him start a company, and through that explore the nature of the Military Industrial Complex, the MultiNationals, the inner-workings of Corporations, all that. All these fit Iron Man the most, but that was the first "phase" of the Epic, since then it moved on to the nature of Nations, Wars, and the Occult. Basically, in the story, the protagonist would be a Conqueror, and I didn't feel that it jived well with Iron Man. Especially since it'd have undertones of History and presented n a sort of "Prestige" format. For example, I can't imagine Tony listening to Vivaldi while ordering a Hit on someone, or being a stern father or even conquering. Since our guy is a villain protagonist, turning Tony into what I imagined felt wrong. So, ultimately, I settled on Doom. And I'll tell you why.
I realized that the F4-Corner is large enough that I could basically tell my story inside it, maybe with borrowing a couple of bits and pieces from other places. All their villains could be reworked and serve functions in my Doom-Centric story. So, the gist of it is: Latveria is somewhere in the Med. Doom's name is "Doumas" or something, since it's an actual surname. He sets up a company in the US, does dealings with the millitary, etc. In my version, the F4 are a group of scientists working through the Baxter Building. Wizad is the "Tony Stark" of the story. ROXXON is the Multi-National. SHIELD is a UN Peace Keeping Force. Klaue is a Weapons Merchant. Basically the thing is more "down to Earth" in the first phase, with Doom as a villainous "Iron Man". Then, as we go, we ramp up the sci-fi and magic aspects. I've got a looot more if anyone is interested.
