i haven't watched it in a while but from what i remember, the first act is just way too long, and then by the time they leave the city not far into the second act, they've already lost steam and used up most of their better ideas it feels like. and the second act is supposed to be the bulk of your story, so it turns into an awkward slog that is both too long and too short. then when it seems like they get their mojo back in that final climactic destruction of the war machine -- honestly, it just goes on too long. the gags are beautiful and well done, but they really really needed to be trimmed. especially since sometimes it's legit hard to discern what the fuck is happening in that limited Virtual Boy palette.
tl;dr it's a beautiful, passion-filled tech demo that would never have achieved its dream of becoming a real boy, even if it had been completed.
