I just finished watching Ralph Bakshi's Hey Good Lookin'. I think it's better than Coonskin and the second Fritz The Cat movie

Gonna post what I post in every Bakshi thread:
Bakshi's movies are incomprehensible messes.
They're personal works of art that first and foremost speak to Ralph Bakshi and explore his thoughts and feelings.
Then they're social commentaries.
And lastly they're movies meant to entertain an audience.

As much as I love Hey Good Lookin' and Coonskin, I can't recommend them as "movies", only as performance-art pieces of Bakshi's mind.

Oh really? Put Hey Good Lookin' in front of an audience that's never seen it before and when it's over ask them what the fuck was going on. I doubt half of them could actually tell what the fuck was going on. Even though the story is dead simple the presentation is so jumbled that it's hard to piece together.

I think he has a lot of raw talent. He also takes a lot from his own experiences, it shows. And unlike animators today, he seems to be enjoying the process too.

He did most of the designs on his movies, although milton knight also did some, and he had the crew do a lot of the designs for mighty mouse

Why isn’t Ralph Bakshi making more movies? Adult animated films are still an untapped market in America. He should make a comeback; would probably even get an Oscar nom for his legacy.
