>>103795668>Katara is there to necessitate Zuko's character arc culmination.
what was necessary for his character arc culmination was Zuko winning and spearing his sister despite katara arguing against it reminding him that killing Azula is what Iroh wanted him to do
better still Katara shouldn't even be there and the conflict between killing Azula and spearing her life would be entirely internal and we could see what Zuko does with the ultimate power over a life of someone whom he both loves and despises
whether he would act like Ozai and kill her because he could or like Iroh and do the same just backing it up with for the greater good justification or would he do something different staying true to himself>The finale has him reconcile with Iroh and demonstrate that he is better than Azula. Not a better firebender, that doesn't matter, but a better person.
one of the axis of conflict between fire siblings was:
since the strong do what they want and the weak suffer what they must and in firebending apparently your power stems from anger and hate
then can you remain a good person and become strong or will you have to leave your morality behind if you want to defent what you believe in
it's obvious what the answer Ozai and Azula would give but even Iroh despite being treated as some kind of a saint he is still a fanatic willing to sacrifice others for his greater good - which makes him infinitely more interesting as a character>Him being willing to sacrifice himself for Katara is his absolvement and redemption. >Katara BARELY won and she only needed to win to save Zuko.
this whole part was totally unnecessary from a narrative perspective and only happened to show writer's pet character's power level as she completely rects Azula like a schmuck
Katara should have joined Aang in fight against Ozai and she should have been the catalyst for Aan to regain his power and not a fucking rock
also bloodbending a shit
