Everyone on /co/ complains about them. They hated that the Spider-Man cartoon forced Spider-Gwen. And Silk taking up more spotlight from Ghost Rider’s own comic didn’t do her favors. And most of /co/ agrees that 616 Spider-Woman is a boring character with a dumb costume and background (the only one who disagrees is the two carolfags who ship Jessica with Carol).

Everyone complains about the over-abundance of Spider-people.

Miles gets the most shit because
1) He’s the most pushed/shilled by Marvel. Which wouldn’t be a problem if he wasn’t
2) BORING as hell. So when you have a character that is boring as hell being constantly pushed/shilled in books you kinda grow annoyed with the character
3) He’s also had a bad history. He replaced Ultimate Peter (a character that many grew up with) and left a bad taste in many fans (made worse by not being as interesting as his predecessor). There was also a fear that Marvel will try and replace 616 Peter with Miles (although that fear has died down with Bendis gone).
4) He’s a goddamn Mary Sue aka Gary Stu. Everyone loves him in universe and he can instantly beat anyone and everything in existence with his Venom Blast (the most broken power in comics).

To be fair, most of the above was because Bendis was a horrible horrible horrible and lazy writer. The Miles movie looks better because the Lego people are in charge instead of him.

Ultimate Spider-Man was my favourite comic. It dropped in quality but I still loved it.

The fact that they killed off Peter so we could have Black Spider-Man enraged me. I even read the first 18 or so issues of the new USM but it was so bad I had to stop.

Silk has her own codename so there's no confusion.

People are annoyed by Miles because he's ALSO named Spider-Man for reasons that no longer make sense, and Bendis wrote him as having an "I win" power.

I think part of that fear was also instilled by how Peter and Miles were essentially fulfilling the same role in the Marvel Universe. That is to say, they were both at a point where there wasn't anything significant about either of them that they weren't interchangeable.

Which is also to say that Marvel made Peter into a boring character.

Also when they introduced Miles into the 616 continuity you got a string of incidents where everyone (Peter included) started referring to him constantly as the better, cooler, real Spider-Man. It was basically the perfect setup if Marvel had decided they just wanted to kill off Peter and replace him again and that's not gonna sit well with people who like Peter and don't give a fuck about Miles.

No 2099 and Unlimited are not the same series.
Ben and Kaine are not the same person, Ben is a better/more perfect clone of Peter and Kaine is a largely failed clone.

Unlimited was a loose sequel to the 90s Spider-Man Animated series, but the Spider-Man in that is still Peter. The cartoon obviously took some inspiration from 2099 in a lot of ways though and I'd definitely recommend checking out the original 2099 series at some point because it's great.

Nice bait, OP. Miles is pretty much has the same problem with Spider-Gwen, a shell character that when you peel away the race and the cool costume you got nothing inside.

But he is way too redundant in 616.
You have Pete, Kaine, Ben and even Superior running around; and that's without counting the myriad spider chicks that popped up in the last five years or so.
Miguel was cool on his own right, Silk improved while not written by Slott, Jess kinda fucked off to raise her kid, Gwen is boring and Annie/May are okay in their own universes.

There's also the fact that Miles has that stupid insta-win venom blast attack, he's shilled and comes off as Shinji Ikari-levels of whining sometimes.
