How did marvel fuck mcu spiderman up so bad? I'm not the biggest purist when it comes to adaptations but He resembles nothing like his comic counterparts wet her it be ultimate or 616
I'm getting tired of MCU Peter sucking off stark. Why can't he just refer to Rony as "Tony Stark" He doesn't feel like an independent character. How did the even the god awful ASM movies have a better understanding of his character ?

Flash Thompson is one of the best supporting characters in comics, Peter arch enemy but Spiderman best friend, MCU version is just...I don't know what he's supposed to be, I wish he would at least help spiderman at some point in the seguels while still hating Peter

If you honestly believe that, you know jack shit about Peter Parker. ASM Peter is an irresponsible prick. I have my fair share of problems with MCU Peter, but that scene where he ditches Liz at the dance to do the right thing mirrored his mistake with Uncle Ben, and he made damn sure not to make that mistake again.

But to answer your question, OP, MCU's Peter's faults is trying to avoid the same beats has past movies, but unfortunately leaves very little to impress. This is very apparent in his supporting cast being butchered. Doesn't help that they need to remind us that Spider-Man is in the MCU every damn minute either. I guess you could also chalk it up as too much too soon. He went from fighting Vulture to Thanos with nothing in-between.

In short, he's a fine Peter, its just the script hasn't been great

the issue here is that in the comics, spiderman is a super established character who has more history fighting crime than others realize.
It's crazy to think of how many superhero characters got their start on an issue of Amazing Spiderman, or any of the other 5 concurrent monthlies spidey had at his peak. Punisher for example, appeared on Spiderman initially, and Parker quipped him out and basically manhandled him the entire arc to try to make sure he didn't kill anyone.
Other characters' relationships with spiderman are similar, where Spiderman is minding his own business in his neighborhood, stopping crimes and investigating shit, and some upstart hero explodes onto the scene, or he's thrown into the mix with a hero he's only heard of or been around, and he maybe geeks out a little while also throwing down at an equal level.

But in the MCU, he's incredibly late to the game. They can't just retcon that Iron Man started off all the superhero business, so they decided spiderman's relationships to the other characters has to be based on him seeing the avengers on television.

this is where they really sagged I think, the movie leaned on Iron Man/Avengers way more than I'd like, and we missed out on characters like Harry, Liz, Flash, Gwen, etc. who end up in the comics being huge tentpoles for peter parkers life

People often fail to realize he's like one of the first if not the first masked vigilante of the modern marvel age.

His origin has people having their minds blown seeing his powers on tv. This just doesn't work nowadays with a hero on each corner, so it's established he has more experience as a hero than 99% of the other heroes.
With his boosted stamina, he's heroing 24/7 since a little after the FF started.

I think Disney this time around wasn't bothering with adaptation of Spider-man nearly as much as with his integration into the MCU which they did flawlessly in my opinion.

And to be absolutely honest with you, I am ok with that simply because people know who the fuck Spider-man is more than any of the characters MCU introduced, so the question wasn't who or what Spider-man is and why he does these things, the question is how he does them in MCU and the answer is again its connection to MCU.

And I think they captured the core of the character relatively well, way fucking better than skateboard riding hipster Amazing Spider-man movie.

True but you can make superheroes start without the approval or influence of Tony Stark. You already have Captain Marvel and Captain America motivated and doing their thing without Tony. The only difference is that Steve went MIA and was influenced by the war and Carol's story was kept secret for some reason.

Having more superheroes wouldn't stop people from marveling at Spider-Man, yeah he's no Thor or Hulk but he's still superhuman and does incredible shit. He is also a local superhero with celebrity status, if they played him being the local superhero in contrasts to the Avengers being international it would endear him to the locals or make the character more personal and closer to home to them.

Peter's experience doesn't matter as much as his independence since even in his early stories other heroes questioned his experience or called him reckless. He always operated his way and clashed with other superheroes because of it. Avengers always wanted to test him and had him try to prove himself and see if he was worthy to join and Peter would blow them off because he really didn't think he had to prove anything to them.

It's one of the things I liked about Homecoming that he was still a hero and did went out and did his Spider-Man thing even if Tony tried to stop him (which was annoying as hell). Him even letting down Tony in the end when he wanted to make him an Avenger was good although it would have been better if he wasn't so nice about it. Peter is just too do eyed and nice to Tony who is the snarkiest SoB and by default should be the person Peter quips at the most (especially since no one is safe from Tony's banter).

The other thing is that Peter doesn't really need a father figure, most of his journey is him growing up and learning from his experiences and making his own mistakes. Maybe he learns from some of the other heroes but none of them are his mentors, he's not a Robin or Kid Flash type.

Anyway maybe with Tony and the Avengers gone we can see him become more like the Spider-Man we know. Hell I'm kind of excited to see the F4 being brought so he can ocasisonally hang out with Johnny. It would be nice to see heroes his own age and by that time he most likely will be college age so it's going to be fun to see that and not older heroes talking down to him. One of the things about other heroes not knowing his identity is that they treated him like an adult and Peter had more responsibility and was on an equal footing with them (also he didn't spend much time in high school and became a young adult pretty quickly so it's not like his age mattered much).

He got about the same amount of streamlining as most other MCU heroes (if not less) and the only really big thing was how much they injected Iron Man into the story (which was definitely bordering on way too much). The thing is ... crossovers with the other parts of the Marvel U, those aren't bad to have in Spider-Man stuff. And why was anyone begging for Spider-Man to be in the MCU in the first place? They wanted him to have that crossover, and they had to do it sooner rather than later, since half the Avengers are probably leaving after next year.

Several things.

The first being that people continually demand that "Spider-Man has to be funny" as the total criteria of the character. Thus, the easiest way to get humor from a male character is to make him an inoffensive moron. Starlord, Tony Stark and Hawkeye are all this, although the first two are sleazy cause they sleep with many women. Therefore, Spider-Man is a retard except when the plot demands he be smart, such as building some amazing gadget, yet he talks dumb around everyone else.

The other being Feige trying to make sure Spider-Man feels different, and SONY wanting DIVERSITY with all their major properties. They altered Spider-Man so much that it just feels like a TV show on Nick now.

I mainly blame fans. They always act like Spider-Man is the epitome of humor, and thus we get this giant wuss.

There probably isn't anyone working on MCU Spider-man that's an actual fan, so they just went off the current shit aka Slott's run.

A lot of the really stupid shit (like the super techno suit) reads like it came right out of Slott's run, and now we have Peter going to London in the next one.

Also no one knew how to introduce Peter Parker into the MCU so they just took the easy out of making him Tony's sidekick. It's fucking retarded because Spider-man SHOULD write itself, but, again, there are no Spider-fans working on it.

No, spiderman's not a suck up weakling. Homecoming Spiderman has literally zero moral compass for himself, and that's partially related to Holland behaving like a kitten. He also doesn't internalize the lesson he learned. One of Spiderman's hallmark traits is his well built moral compass, taken from important lessons he lives through. Take the Raimi films, he doesn't even take Uncle Ben's "Great Power" spiel to heart initially, he spurns it. He doesn't even fully internalize and make it his own completely til the end of the film, where he's put to his limits and has to make some tough decisions and go through rough obstacles. Homecoming Spiderman never goes through legitimate tribulation, no more than dullard teenage drama. Even his bully seems more like a douchebag friend, at times. It's 100% because this movie is part of the Marvel/Disney creativity by corporate committee model of shared universe, light tone (except for the big ones), and lowest common denominator. Were there some laughs? Yes. But it is SOULLESS.

From a story perspective, there is no nuance. He has no genuine obstacle with his muse, he goes through no tribulation that he couldn't laugh through later, the villain doesn't put him through the ringer and test his abilities and moral compass, he has a super advanced suit he didn't even build himself, and he's never in danger of failing because he has a permanent safety net of Iron Man.

All of Spiderman's thoughts and his whole arc is explicitly explained through dialogue in homecoming. Which is irrelevant, because the arc is lame, anyway. He doesn't really suffer, because everyone pretty much likes him. Exposition isn't really inherently bad, anyway.
Peter Parker has some genuine conversations about his struggle in the Raimi films. He's socially anxious and awkward, he lost his father figure through his own mistake, and he has to progress through the plot on his own strength of character, because he doesn't have anyone backing him up. None of that is explicit, it's implicit in the dialogue, which there's nothing wrong with in the movie.
