I used sarcasm and exagerration there.
I like both anime and cartoons and believe that both are equal act of art and creativity, with just minor part of them being soulless cash cows (from both sides).
Anime usually comes out after manga has proven itself successful/interesting, vice versa happens but less often. So anime doesn't promoting manga that much.
On a large scale, both animes and cartoons are the same, but I prefer quality and consistency to them (be it the art style or the plot, at least one should be good).
If you think that sloppy drawing is the only sign of "soul" in anime/cartoon, you should stop position your subjective preference in art style as the only definition of quality and soul in something. Because in this case it's just matter of taste.
