A lot of the males (especially uncles) on my mother's side of the family are or were alcoholics.
None of the females are alcoholics, but they all like a drink.

What kind of risk do I have of developing alcoholism genetically due to this? Am I safe or should I watch my drinking?

Alcoholism is either a choice or a learned behavior. "Muh genetics" is a cop out, they just genuinely enjoy getting sloshed to the point it causes problems.

There's definitely a genetic component to alcoholism. The evidence shows it. Children of alcoholic parents are over four times more likely to become an alcoholic themselves

Well yeah. People don't choose how much they enjoy things. The fact alcohol causes a release in dopamine inherently means people are capable of becoming addicted to it. There is such a thing as alcohol withdrawal. If you're interested in either fixing your ignorance or confirming your hypothesis, then look into this stuff more.

Are you an alcoholic? Because I am. I just don't make excuses for what I know I'm choosing to do. Agency conveniently disappears when necessary in psychology. If children of alcoholics that were not present in their lives had statistically higher rates of alcoholism than a control, that would be an interesting read.

You're not safe, you're at an almost extreme risk of developing into an alcoholic. An easy tell is if you quickly knock back 2-3 drinks to get you started. In alcoholics, this generally produces euphoria. You also would be reluctant to stop, and would generally keep going until there was no alcohol left. People having liquor cabinets and half consumed bottles of alcohol laying around would seem puzzling to you.

It means your body may handle alcohol better than other people and psychologically it may be easier to get attached since you won't be judged as harshly by your family for drinking, for example.

Everyone should watch their drinking even if they don't have a likelihood of becoming alcoholics. Avoid drinking by yourself and you should be fine
