What if I solve graphically on scrap paper and then jot down some fake calculations to go along with my solution to make it seem like I solved algebraically?

The marker will see that your calculations are nonsense and not award marks for the question.
Unless you mean you'd graph the function then use your knowledge of the answer to help you find a genuine algebraic answer, but then you're essentially just using the graph to check your answer, but in reverse.
I don't really see how you could find the answer to most questions using a pen and paper graph anyway, because typically these sorts of questions ask for an exact answer -- for example, root 2 + root 3 ~ pi ~ 3.14. You might be able to guess which of those is most likely given the form of the equation you start with, but that will fail for more complicated examples.

You realize that if you want to get the value of a point on a graph, you'll still have to calculate it by hand, right? You can't just draw a parabola freehand and get exact values.
