What's the state of the art of nature vs nurture? There's this book by a Robert Plomin claiming that it's all genetics, and that science has proven this. In the reviews you see people criticizing and saying the studies he cited suffer from replication crisis and are currently being called into question. But they also talk about how such research is dangerous and immoral, which makes me wonder if there's motivated reasoning for the rejection of Plomin's thesis.
So my question is this: what do we know about how much parenting matters? Does it shape the psychological profile, or is the profile mostly due to genetics?
Seems like a simple enough question. Why does it seem to be so controversial? Is it because the science is generally flawed, or is it because of moral outrage?
