How are evolution-denying Christians able to reject scientific consensus without their brains fucking exploding from contradictions with nature that their worldview asserts?
I've taken on a habit of watching fundamentalist sermons on youtube recently and this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbcY9iya40o is my latest watch. I'm not a Christian or anything, it's just something I enjoy doing, not sure why.

Are they just completely fucking ignorant of the science? Do they willfully ignore the evidence?
Please help me to understand this mindset.

From a behavioural point of view, I find interesting that Protestant critics of the evolution theory base their criticism on ramblings from a book more than 150 years old. It's as if their own thinking structures would force them to consider phenomenology through literary devices just like they do with the Bible. "It's written in a book thus it must be true."

If we pick another branch of Christianity like Roman Catholicism, we don't see this emphasis on literary quotation, and as a net result they don't really oppose evolution.

Funny thing when you think about it: while the Gutenberg press allowed free thinking to sweep over Europe, ultimately leading to the Enlightenment and rationalism, it also created this ideology obsessed with literary expositions.

There's your problem OP. I get what you mean but Science contradicts at times and also says things without visual proof. I.e. Atoms.

So don't forget the Christians in their minds have a place to go because they can recall all this and use it as their reasoning to continue.

Different people have different ingrained beliefs that they refuse to let go of in the face of irrefutable evidence. For example, a large cohort of /sci/ refuses to accept the different racial groups have different mean cognitive abilities, and that socialist/marxist philosophies violate foundational laws of economics.

because when people are brainwashed you can show then evidence of the opposite and they will find a way to rationalize why you are wrong. the best you can do with brainwashed people is to make them say "maybe" because they will never agree with you.

I think evolution deniers don't actually know the arguments as well as you assume. As far as they know, the argument is "we found dinosaur bones therefore evolution is real" and "you can categorize animals into a sort of spectrum, based on how they look, therefore evolution is real." It would be easy to think that evolution is a sort of science-of-the-gaps hypothesis that isn't very likely if you don't actually know how much evidence there is for it.

Because many fundamentalist Christians rely entirely on faith over reason, just as many leftists rely entirely on faith over reason. Evidence that contradicts established doctrine is clearly not evidence in their eyes.

Many of them think they understand evolution, but don't actually.
This will usually be revealed if you ask them to explain it, and at some point they'll say something that indicates there is one or more key details they're missing.

I doubt the majority does. I've seen people on forums reject evolution, get a good explanation of it and finally "get it". I suspect many of them are introduced to it very poorly, and then go on assuming it is wrong, never going out of their way to actually understand it.
