Doesn't seem newsworthy. It's an old theory that a time traveler can only arrive in their own past to create the future that they came from. It works like that in a fair amount of movies. The research paper is here:

Still reading through it, but so far, it looks heavily theoretical and only loosely based on known physics. The math seems to only prove that there's a manner in which it CAN be so without really making any statement for whether it MUST be so.

Putting what I've read so far into a single word, it's all just speculation.

That's exactly what I said, and after having finished the paper, it still doesn't go beyond my assessment. It's saying that it CAN happen without ever asserting that it must be the case.

Also, there's no time re-configuring itself. The time traveler arrives in the past in the same universe that he left, effectively making any action he takes into something that already happened in his own universe. The path from the future to the past results in all "reconfigurations" having already been the default configuration in the time traveler's universe in the first place. If he kills his grandfather, it'll turn out that that wasn't his actual grandfather.

It's a pop science article / human interest piece on a student wondering if scenario X could be the case and then working out that yes, scenario X can be the case. Yes, there are implications, but those implications are something discussed among other time travel systems, mainly in science fiction.
