I studied theoretical physics, but couldn't cut it as a scientist - too disillusioned / nihilist.
After years of technical employment I've come to the understanding that some things just are, and those things that /are/ part of the Creator's fingerprint if you will, can only be shown empirically and not easily predicted.

Agreed. I don’t even think the creator is necessary per se. there is this thing we are all in and this involves parts available to our immediate senses and parts that aren’t. We try to understand what it is and how it works. Science is supposed to build experimentally sound foundations to produce real knowledge regarding this. The theoreticians don’t do that. They take what is and translate what we know into various in vogue code languages. Sometimes this formulation is so well articulated that it helps scientists see true relationships. But it isn’t science per se.
