That's the best video I've seen on the subject so it's not a surprise to see it posted in here. It even explains why the simulation image used in Interstellar looks that way.
The "shadow" is one of the most bizarre things to me when it comes to the way black holes bend spacetime around it so it's nice that I could understand it perfectly after watching that.

The media manipulation/direction for this caused a polarizing effect which causes things like this. Complaining and complaining about complaining. "We have all this data but you only get a tiny blurry image." isn't really helpful, that's basically what I'm hearing from people. Most have only seen a tiny blurry image that's mostly black border because of news organizations. This is what you get after the initial novelty wears off, people want more. At my school we have a video wall with a large resolution version displayable, that helps. No one complains about resolution when standing in front of a 10 feet by 20 foot display.
I could make wild guesses about cleaning up the data differently or plotting some other way but I have neither the data or the code they used to produce this so it seems pointless.
