In the end it doesn't matter if someone photobashes or not but I think people should at least be transparent and honest about whether they are photobashing instead of trying to deceive normies into thinking they drew everything by hand. In the comments of that post someone praised them for their perspective and the artist just accepted it despite it being obvious he didn't do the perspective himself and used a filter. It's because artists keep lying to normies that normies always get discouraged or baffled when they start learning art and find out most artists photobash, reference, and use 3D models. If artists were more transparent about using shortcuts instead of pretending they did all the work themselves then there wouldn't be regular threads of outraged anons complaining or expressing their shock at the discovery of photobashing and 3d models. Photobash all you want but deluding normies is pretty disingenuous.The dishonesty sets a bad precedent.

Regarding photobash, while it's true that it doesn't matter if whether someone photobashes or not, there should be a limit to how low-effort it can be. Artists do photobashes all the time, but they take from many photos and composite it in their own way, add different lighting, layering many effects on top and in many case, even shoot the photos themselves.
The creative output of OP pic almost solely comes from the stock photo (lighting, composition), they didn't really do anything interesting with it. If the majority of your picture comes from someone else to the point that it is so easily reverse searchable, can you even call it yours anymore?

I call it good gate keeping, and trade "secrets" when you reach a certain level you know all the tricks on how to get fast and make a good product at the end, and draw stuff that you can't really draw normally. Time is money, in the time that that artist would have spent in making that background, he can draw 2 other anime gurls to post that week, really no one cares apart from other artist, and is wasted time to make a good background if you aren't doing it for fun, as challenge or are payed the right ammount for it, most of the people will see that picture for 30sec and move on to the next tweet. I agree that he should have overpainted it at least tho.
And really if you had to draw a lot of commissions every tool is valid, doesn't matter

I wouldn't say it's unfair. The market likes what it likes. One person would say it's cheating and another would call it a tool. It just depends on what you're confortable with doing. Personally I find it lazy and kind of retarded but I don't really blame him. There's two kinds of artists, the ones that will do whatever it takes to get the job done (to a certain extent) and those that have their own strict unshakable values. Both are fine, they can both make good money, and they can both reach deadlines. Just depends on your preference.
