>>5972814oh dude i meant to answer op though, i grew up in the west during this time, and my library had a huge anime/manga section, and it was always packed with happy kids. my friends bought manga regularly enough and we all passed it around, and we watched all the usual things like yu-gi-oh and pokemon. the kids at school played duel monsters in the halls, and i thought they were awesome. (i couldn't afford cards.) pretty much all us kids coukdn't get enough off it, and your average adult probably just thought it was great their kids had a such a lively interest in something that kept them always excited to visit their local bookstores or libraries, that would have them sitting quietly for hours.
