Whats this boards opinion on abstract art. Ive been trying to get into art for a couple of years. I am lazy but I just dont care about art that looks like real life. I like abstract art but I feel like a fraud creating it even though I enjoy it. I just dont see the point of trying to replicate reality when we have digtal photgraphy and can manipulate images so easily.

The point is digital photography cant capture the impression of a view the way your eyes can, in that impression there can be many abstractions. That is the only place for the abstract in art imo. Contemporary art was a mistake

I do abstract paintings every once in a while when I need to give gifts to people. It think they make for better decoration than realistic ones, sure those are technically impressive but you get bored after six months and sometimes they make the furniture next to them look cheap. Those ones are so inoffensive you can put them wherever and forget about it.

If you like doing abstract painting, but you are worried about the negative things people may say, then it might be a cognitive dissonance issue. As in, if you make being an artist a part of your identity, it will hurt a lot if someone says you are not an artist. I would consider abstract art to be art, but if you really want to be "invincible", you could just not think of yourself as an artist, and your art as not being art, but something else.

I think that there is artistic value in abstract art, I'm just not very interested in it in general. Though there is a guy I follow on Pixiv Sketch that does these neat abstract compositions that I really like because they communicate feelings of movement and space, and the compositions are nice. They tickle my brain on a fundamental artistic level. Abstract art made for the love of it isn't bad at all.

I think the only problem that I have is with annoying pseuds that wank themselves off over how much of an artistic feat it is to, for example, paint a canvas a couple of solid colors and call it a day. I suppose that's falling more into the realm of conceptual art, though, but am I wrong to believe that they aren't more than a little related? I just don't have any love for the academic art world at all, I suppose. It's smug, smarmy, self-congratulatory shit like this https://youtu.be/v5DqmTtCPiQ that just leaves a bad taste in my mouth, is all.

Overall pretty neutral, there's some nice stuff out there, but most abstract art doesn't connect with me at all. I think a lot of people on there are still a bit stuck in high school and are mad that their art teacher thought their anime drawings where lesser art. Not that I'm above that through. My art teacher loved abstract art, he loved to talk about how subversive and brave it is, the irony that these days it's popular with many people and corporations because it's mostly inoffensive, meaningless and easy to decorate with, gives me more satisfaction than I'd like to admit.

the only abstract work i found was nippers abstract maps.
painting is not a medium for this forum of thoght or feeling.
you can tell teh intention of someones work and what some create disgustes me.

Is highly contextual and something made with few people in mind that is far too popular and infamous.

The main attraction I would say is for people who can read illustration and paints like an artist would, with the colors, composition, textures, feeling, forms and all the abstract bullshit you pick a long the years and are more feelings then actual toughts, that's the cool part, for normalfags or the avarage joe is just a bunch of squares and circles, and they probably can't tell the difference between something abstract or avant-garde
, what makes it even worse.

For me to like is I would need a shit ton of context before hand, is more something that is fun to read and try to understand then how you would appreciate a normal painting, like a puzzle, I still prefer something closer to symbolism or impressionism. It has all the characteristics of abstract and a shit ton of soul and squizo energy, you don't really need to understand all the technical stuff to fully appreciate the piece.

nipper is based but abstract art can be good, but it does really fall into illustrative category, mostly uninterruptible without prior knowledge of the artists intent, say a title etc... abstraction is important but on its own it lacks something in its expression that breaks over pretension in an uncomfortable way
