Do you think the obsession and fetishitazion of eastern art styles will ever calm down? Back in the late 2000s/early 2010s it seemed like japanese media was losing ground in the west with most people not enjoying it anymore and western cartoons/comics (Adventure Time, MLP, etc.) starting to "get good" again, but now it's pretty much the opposite. What exactly happened?

Japan produces like 20 times the animations that the rest of the world does. Some of it is bound to be at least decent every time. Rest of the world has significant periods where everything put out is shit. Every time this happens, people flock to anime.

The fetishization will stop once there stops being an east vs west "war". This is already starting to happen as more eastern artists/animation studios are starting to adopt more western styles and techniques. As the internet grows in size, the divide between country borders starts to break down inevitably. Maybe in the future it will be normal for eastern and western studios to co-work on animation projects, once the language barrier is overcome (many technologies that are attempting to solve this).

The anime style is pretty stale now. I think every teenager is going to continue to have a phase where they think anime is the greatest thing ever, but many are going to grow bored of it.

As long as Japan remains the epicenter of a animation for the world people aren't going to stop flocking to it. 2D animation is mostly dead in the west. Disney hasn't made a 2D animated film I. Over a decade. Sure there's still good stuff that comes out of the rubble,.but for every one good show the west makes, there's 20 good anime's that released that same year. The west just isn't completeing on the same level. And after getting their asses demolished the western animation industry refuses to acknowledge and respect the anime industry. Professors in fucking college level animation programs still refuse to accept the style and give kids a hard time who emulate it and try to learn from it. If anything the should be studying and breaking down the best sakuga modern abume ahs to offer. It should be part of the curriculum. If the west wants to become a relevant player in the animation industry again, they need to start competing on equal footing and get over themselves. That means no more template bean faced children's cartoons while calling anime generic and dirivitive
