I think the bean section might help? One of my ways to warm up/study was drawing a bunch of beans... And then treating those beans like torsos. And from there I would evolve the bean shape a little bit as I grew and understood the form more.
Just like draw a ton of bean-like shapes. Then add a circle for a head somewhere. Boom you got some bodies going toss some limbs on there!
Though nowadays I just get a thick brush and do mini silhouettes. Kinda like you see in the top left of
