>>5624385Tainted by fiendish blood and canine-like looks, Renard is a young wizard born and raised in the strict Beauchêne family of divine/arcane casters. Despite his family's magical tradition, his natural affinity to the occult has led him to different practices, yet he remains as motivated to do good as his relatives, perhaps obsessively so. His abilities, but especially his looks (something he has learned to hide well), have given birth to a strong complex in the man's psyche, but while it is his biggest flaw it also works as his main drive to hunt and punish evil, believing in a strict karma system that rewards just actions and can hopefully counterbalance his tainted soul just enough for him to earn a peaceful afterlife.
Renard leads a very austere and lonesome lifestyle trying to pursue his uncertain quest for atonement, to the point that many of the bottled up feelings and needs he has neglected in search of perfection have put him on the radar of an otherworldly entity to latch onto and haunt him. Only after he finds himself trapped in a cursed land with an old, mature cleric and a hopeful, joyful paladin does he develop more as a character, learning how to accept and live with the cards he's been dealt, while fate unveils more about his origins as well as his connections to the mysterious domain.
Tl;dr, imagine an Arcanaloth Tiefling in a Curse of Strahd campaign, edgy-looking but good at heart lad that wants to hunt monsters and redeem himself.
He is also a great cook.
