Is there a ref guide for simplified muscle groups?
Some jap artist suggested that's way easier to learn the simple muscle groups first before learning the individual muscles.

Had a bit of trouble with this one, still making adjustments. The arching down torso I usually find particularly difficult to draw.

Maybe I hsould try that as well, most muscle ref images i've found of bodu builders are low res and not so good to me. Which artists have you tried using as refs so far? Personally I enjoy how Sheepapp does muscle drawings.

the only time inner muscles are relevant IMO is when you need to draw the individual strands of muscle, and which direction they go. but thats really only important with hyper art.

Only the outer stuff, going too much unto depth can be time consuming without adding useful knowledge. Most of the time you'll only need to know the muscle and bone structure it's connected to

I'm not an expert, but I've barely studied anatomy with the sole intent of learning. Instead I draw what I want with the intention of making a finished piece, then look up photos and diagrams to understand the anatomy on the figure I'm drawing. For example if I wanted to draw a buff character throwing something, I might look for references of an arm raised or muscles in the armpit area. It makes studying more fun because you're still drawing something you want, and it helps you apply the knowledge to your own art.
