old school magic art was better by way of having more variety in styles as opposed to recent years where everything while obviously professionally made is under heavy art direction to stay thematically consistent which frankly makes things pretty samey and less distinctive. it seems they realised this somewhat recently and all sorts of alternate art cards have been cropping up with unconventional styles.
