>>5169697>Does Pixel Art really deserve to be its own art form?short answer: yes, because pixels are the fundamental medium of digital art.
longer answer: I've been getting into vintage PC98 art lately (and by extension, other pixel art), and I've been wondering why it appeals to me so much—especially because I mostly do traditional art and usually enjoy classic comic art done with pen and ink.
I find that pixel art and traditional art are the two art forms that share maximum 'soul.'
The digital art pieces typically found on Artstation—especially using tools that mimic traditional mediums—lack soul. It almost seems like ersatz art to me.
Why? Probably because pixels are the fundamental medium of digital art, just like ink, paint, etc. are the fundamental mediums of traditional art. Thus it is more authentic, pure, and 'soulful.'
