what are some resources on learning color theory? i get told to learn color theory but i’m not sure how to approach it besides learning the basics of the color wheel

Marco Bucci had some great videos on YouTube. You could also try ctrlpaint free videos on Matt Kohr's website.

It may sound may counter intuitive, but learning to paint in black and white will help you paint in colour faster. Values are king, your colours wont matter if your values are bad, period.

this course isn't good. it's mainly for oil painters and the theory is really basic compared to what you can get out of a book. only thing i kept from it were some of the demos and did it along with him but this class is incredibly overrated. david hornung's color, alla prima, and gurney's books cover way more and more practical info.
