The important aspects to consider when you're deciding on what color to use and where, are the hue, value and chroma.
There's no "True" primary colors, just systems created for different applications and results.
RGB for light emission calculation, cmyk for printing process, etc.
For painting digitally, HSV system works pretty fine, and learning a bit about Munsell system does help for both digital and traditional painting.
