They actively reject learning anything or mastering anything, and they will always choose not to do something if there is any chance it might lead to even the most minor of "failure" or embarrassment.
Part of what motivated me in the beginning was the disgust I felt at them and my strong desire to not become like them.
The first few years making art weren't much fun. Then it became fun. It was worth it.
Besides, by going through discomfort, you gradually become comfortable with anything. Whereas by avoiding discomfort, you will never be the kind of person who is comfortable in this world.
Perhaps this will help you too. Nowadays I can't even imagine feeling like I "can't start" or "can't knuckle down and work" on something that I know is good for me.
Also, after you work, reward yourself with rest and enjoy the feeling of work well done. Even if, like me, the first few years your pictures look like trash.
